Dodd City, Texas -- The Dodd City Lady Hornets went 1-2 on Saturday against stiff competition in the gold bracket at the Saint Jo Volleyball Tournament.
In the first match, Dodd City played well against the No. 11 team in Class 2A, Detroit, before falling 2-1. Detroit took the opener, 25-19, but Dodd City answered with a 25-19 win in the second set. Detroit came out on top in the third set, 25-17. Dodd City's Addison Weeks put down 20 kills and Gracyn Shindler had eight kills. Shindler handed out 13 assists and Kaleigh McBrayer had seven assists. Kenzi Freeman came up with a team-high 12 digs and Weeks had 10 digs. Kendyl Lindsey and McBrayer both had three aces and Caroline Lackey had one block.
Dodd City swept Chico in the second match, with Weeks knocking down 11 kills, followed by Shindler (7), McBrayer (3), and Kodi Dorau (2). Shindler led the team in assists (11) and digs (16).
In the third match, Dodd City fell to Grayson Christian, 25-16 and 25-18. Weeks had nine kills and Shindler put down four kills. Adisen White and Freeman each had three assists. Shindler came up with seven digs, followed by McBrayer (6), Weeks (6), Freeman (5), Lindsey (4), and Kennedy Chaney (2). Dorau had a team-high 2 blocks.
The Lady Hornets have another tough match Tuesday, September 16 when Dodd City will host Collinsville, the No. 23 team in Class 2A.
