Grayson County, Texas -- The Grayson County Historical Society will be meeting Tuesday evening, August 12, at 6:30 p.m. Our guest speaker for the evening is Kearby L. Lyde of Sherman, Texas. His presentation is the 110th Anniversary of the Sinking of the Lusitania.

The Lusitania was a British-registered oceanliner that was torpedoed by a German Navy U-boat. There were 1198 lives lost with 767 saved.

Mr. Lyde, a local historican, was born in Sherman, Texas, and received his MA., B.A. from Austin College and his A.S., from the Grayson Community College in Sherman, Texas. He has taught many years in the Houston and Pasadena areas.

Lyde says his combined love of history and travel has resulted in him organizing and leading groups of students, faculty and community members to various parts of Europe over the last 30 years.

Tuesday evening's meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Frontier Village in Loy Lake Park, Hwy 75 south exit 61. The door opens at 6:00. Bring your family, friends and neighbors. We have an interesting program, food brought by our faithful members.
