Whitewright, Texas -- Roy Lee Black of Whitewright, Texas passed away on June 30, 2025, at 78 years old. Mr. Black was born on October 7, 1946, in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Norman and Jewel Black.
At Roy's birth, the Black family lived on a ranch northwest of Phoenix, which was the winter residence for a newspaper owner from Chicago. Once Roy got to school age and after his brother Paul was born, the family moved to the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona in 1951.
Roy married in 1968 and shortly thereafter moved to Oklahoma to advance his career as a steel worker. A son, Kinny, was born in 1971 but passed away in June 1982 at 9 years old.
Roy's career of working on building and maintaining power plants in multiple states resulted in moving multiple times and two other marriages.
Eventually, Roy settled in Whitewright, Texas and met Jean Miller of Whitewright. They were married on May 20, 1995.
Mr. Black was a Mason, and he was a Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Jewel Black, and his son Kinny Black.
Roy is survived by his ex-wife Jean of Whitewright, his brother Paul Black and wife Trish of Weaverville, North Carolina.
