Austin, Texas -- The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $880,755,000 from the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT)* to the North Texas Municipal Water District (Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Hunt, Kaufman, Rains, and Rockwall counties) including

  • $239,060,000 for the construction of a water system improvements project and
  • $641,695,000 for the construction of a water system project.

The District could save approximately $51,500,000 over the life of the loans by using the SWIFT program.

With the assistance approved today, the District will install a second high service pump station to complete Phase 3 of its Bois d’Arc project that will deliver a maximum capacity of 175 million gallons per day. The District will also construct two pipelines—one 27 miles long and another 9 miles long—using 84-inch pipe to deliver water from Lake Texoma to its rapidly growing service area.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional water and flood planning, and preparing the state water and flood plans. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, and agricultural water conservation projects.

*The SWIFT program includes two funds, the State Water Implementation Fund for Texas (SWIFT) and the State Water Implementation Revenue Fund for Texas (SWIRFT). Revenue bonds for the program are issued through SWIRFT.
