Sherman, Texas -- Music fans in Sherman enjoyed a performance Thursday, July 17, 2025, by the first musician to top the charts with a No. 1 hit before being signed by a record label. And even before she sings a note or strums the first chord on her guitar, fans of Lisa Loeb instantly recognize her iconic eye ware.

Loeb is best known for "Stay (I Missed You)" that was released in 1994 as the lead single from the original movie soundtrack to Reality Bites, but Loeb also enjoyed success with "Do you Sleep" and "I Do." Two albums, Tails and Firecracker, both sold over half a million units to be certified gold.

Loeb owes a debt of gratitude to actor and one-time neighbor Ethan Hawke for giving a tape of "Stay" to Ben Stiller who was directing Reality Bites. Hawke went on to produce the video for "Stay" that featured a cameo by Hawke's cat. Spin magazine tabbed it as video of the year in 1994.

Loeb was born in Maryland, but raised in Dallas where she attended The Hockaday School and went on to earn a degree in comparative literature from Brown University. It was there Loeb started her first band with guitarist Duncan Sheik.

In Sherman on Thursday evening, Loeb had the Hot Summer Nights crowd singing along with her hits.

Up next at Hot Summer Nights is Steven Adler of Guns N' Roses on July 24, followed by the final performance of Sherman's free concert series, Liberacion on July 31.
