Nancy passed away on June 5, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born January 15, 1951, in Sherman, Texas to the late Otis G. (Jim) Leverette and Helen (McAfee) Leverette.  Nancy grew up in Sherman and attended Sherman Public Schools, graduating from Sherman High School in 1969. Her grandparents and parents were founding members of Calvary Baptist Church located on Moore Street in Sherman. She was a lifelong member and served her God and the church in many capacities. Her favorite was teaching young children in Sunday School.

The time spent at Calvary also introduced her to the two great loves of her life. There she met her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and her future husband, Mike.  Mike and Nancy were married on August 1, 1969, and together, they built a warm and loving home and life. It was a family tradition to meet at Mike and Nancy’s for a Trick or Treat celebration. She went all out with decorations and treats. It was a wonderful family time for children and adults, and one that was anticipated months in advance.

Nancy spent her time serving her God and raising her children. She enjoyed attending volleyball games for Malina and baseball games for Eric. Over the years those games changed to volleyball for her grandchildren. While she chose to focus on her family she also worked for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and later for Douglass Distributing.

Traveling with Mike and friends was also a source of joy for her. San Francisco ranked as her favorite, but Alaska was a close second.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Michael S. Bernard, and her children: Malina Aleman and husband Chico of Sherman; Eric M. Bernard of Sherman. She also leaves behind several grandchildren: Mia Aleman, Trey Aleman, Rylie Bernard, Kinlie Bernard and Cason Bernard. She loved when they called her “Granny” and thrived on their visits and calls.  Also surviving are her sisters, Donna Groves of Chico, TX, Pam Gurley and husband Jack, and her brother, John Leverette and wife Susan, all of Sherman.

She is gone too soon and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at Waldo Funeral Home.

They would also like to express their appreciation to the staff of Heart Hospice, Chaplain Bryan Spurgin and Nurse Donella Staley for the compassionate care they provided Nancy. We also want to give a heartfelt thank you to Syrena Gaston for the daily care she provided. Nancy enjoyed her help and companionship.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of Calvary Baptist Church. The register book can be signed online at www.waldofuneralhome.com.
