McKinney, Texas -- McKinney residents will soon notice new additions to city streets and sidewalks as the first phase of a comprehensive wayfinding signage program begins installation this week. The citywide wayfinding program marks a major investment in improving public navigation, enhancing the visitor experience, and supporting local businesses, parks, and cultural sites.
"This project is all about making life a little easier for our residents and more welcoming for our visitors," said Mayor George Fuller. "Whether someone is trying to find the downtown square, City Hall, a park, or a library, these signs will help get them there clearly, quickly, and with a sense of place that's uniquely McKinney."
The initial wave of signage includes vehicular, pedestrian, and parking signs, all designed with a consistent look and feel that reflects McKinney's distinctive character. The signs will provide directions, identify major attractions and districts, and help people orient themselves no matter where they begin their journey in the city.
As part of McKinney's commitment to celebrating its identity, the signs are designed to incorporate nature scenes and elements that highlight the city's "Unique by Nature" brand.
Highlights of the wayfinding program include:
- Improved Navigation: Clear, easy-to-follow signs for drivers and pedestrians will make it simpler to reach important city destinations, services, and cultural sites.
- Community Identity: A unified design aesthetic showcases McKinney's charm and enhances the city's visual appeal.
- Support for Local Economy: Wayfinding supports local businesses by guiding customers to shopping, dining, and entertainment districts.
- Better Visitor Experience: Visitors will feel more confident exploring the city, which will encourage longer stays and return visits.
Residents can expect to see the first installations in the coming weeks, with additional signage to be added throughout the summer months.
Wayfinding signage is funded by the city's Capital Improvements Program. For more information on the City of McKinney's wayfinding program, visit the city's website or email contact-traffic@mckinneytexas.org.
