Bonham, Texas -- The Gospel of John tells us, in John 19:25-27, “Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.”

Interesting!  It seems clear that John and at least some of Christ’s followers were standing near the cross, standing near enough even for Jesus to speak to them.

So, where do we, Christ’s followers, want to be around 3:00 p.m. on Good Friday?

Do we want to be watching from a distance, possibly out of fear, or maybe it’s just too hard to watch up close and personal?  Or are we willing to be right there with Jesus in his last moments, so close that we can hear Jesus speak to us?

We at First Presbyterian Church Bonham invite you to a time of prayer in the sanctuary, up close and personal with Jesus. Anytime from 3:00 to 6:00 in the afternoon on Good Friday, April 18 to talk to Jesus and listen to Jesus in the way that you feel led.

There will be the 14 Stations of the Cross to explore plus interactive prayer stations for all ages, such as sand-writing, scrabble word spelling, labyrinth coloring, thread-weaving, or simply sitting in silence in prayer and scripture.  You could even bring your phones and earbuds to pray with music.

We welcome you to stay or come back for the Good Friday worship service at 6:30 p.m.
