Sherman, Texas -- David Ellis Hall died on August 19, 2023 in Sherman, Texas.  David was a resident of Sherman, Texas, born August 19, 1945 in La Jolla, California at the end of World War II.  He was a graduate of Sherman High School and Austin College.  His family and the many friendships he formed throughout his life in Sherman were paramount to him.

David was a one-of-a-kind people person, and his network of friends returned his love and loyalty with decades of goodwill, emotional support and shared fellowship. He took special delight in searching out high school classmates to assure their attendance at the alumnae association’s reunions.

Family members recall David’s interest in Elvis Presley, leading to Memphis pilgrimages and conversations with Colonel Parker at Graceland.  As a teenager, David was a devoted fan of Arnold Palmer, which led him to take up the game of golf to emulate his hero.

At times, David enjoyed raising the eyebrows of family and friends alike with offbeat culinary choices ranging from fried alligator to canned rattlesnake meat.  Another specialty was the collection and dispensation of obscure facts and trivia, which he enjoyed sharing with one and all.

David was loyal and steadfast, eager to support or defend whomever or whatever he believed in.  Despite a shy demeanor, David could cut through superficial conversation to find the irony, common ground and humor.  The humor was always a delight to him.

David worked for many years in the 100-year family business, Hall Furniture Company in downtown Sherman.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sherman, where his family worshipped for many years.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Nell and Levis Hall.  He is survived by his sister, Sharon Hall Templeton, his brother Stephen Hall (Phyllis), nieces Rebecca Strout and Susan Kinney (Craig), cousins Claire Inglish, Carol Hare (Robert), Susan Stancil (Jim), Lisa Hall, Don Galgan, Claire Kaufman (Jerry) and Mike Galgan (Brenda).

The family extends sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff at Texoma Health Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for their exceptional kindness and professionalism.

Graveside memorial service will be held at West Hill Cemetery on Monday, September 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.
