COLLEGE STATION – Winners of this year's Student Research Poster Competition were announced in January at Texas A&M University.

"This year marked the fifth anniversary of the poster competition, which has been held in conjunction with the annual Agriculture Program Conference," said Patricia Gerling, assistant vice chancellor for agriculture and life sciences.

The competition had two categories: undergraduate and graduate. The graduate division winner was Texas A&M student Jeremy L. Hudgeons of Lubbock. He won $500 for his poster entitled "Release of Diorhaba elonganta for the Biological Control of Saltcedar (Tamariz spp.) on the Colorado River in Texas."

The winner of the undergraduate division was Tarleton State University student Sara Best of Boerne. She won $300 for her poster entitled "Season Efficacy of Buck Grub versus Whole Corn as an Attractant for Wildlife."

Other winners in the graduate division were Anna Maria Munoz of Carlsbad, N.M., Emily Hollister of College Station, Dawn Pawelek of Floresville, Tammy M. Platt of Canyon, Shibu M. Poulose of Bryan, and Catherine Zindler of Houston. Lacey Proffit of Sublette, Kan., and Robert Munguia Jr. of Corpus Christi placed in the undergraduate division.

Students associated with the Texas A&M University System, Agriculture Program agencies, and regional research and Extension centers were invited to compete. The posters were representations of abstracts with a clear relationship to agriculture, renewable natural resources or life sciences.
