UNT Parent education conference for students, educators - - and parents set Feb. 10

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas Center for Parent Education, in association with UNT's College of Education, will host the 13th annual Conference on Parent Education from 7:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 10 – 11 (Thursday and Friday) at the University Union, one block west of Welch and West Prairie streets.
The conference will provide training and resources to professionals working in the field of parent education, including public school specialists, social workers, employees of child protective services, teachers and Head Start employees.
The event is also aimed at students interested in learning more about the field of parent education, as well as parents themselves.
The conference includes workshops, research and interests sessions, lectures and networking luncheons. Session topics include "Helping Immigrants Achieve Success Through Bicultural Parenting," "Kids Talk About Divorce" and "Make ‘Em Laugh: Using Humor to Encourage Learning in Parent Education."
Dr. Joyce Epstein, a professor in sociology at Johns Hopkins University, will preside as the keynote speaker of the conference. The title of her keynote address is "Developing Research-based Programs of Family and Community Involvement for Student Success."
Epstein has produced more than 100 publications on the influence of school, classroom, family and peer environments on student learning and development. Epstein is also the director of the National Network of Partnership Schools and the Center on School, Family and Community Partnerships and sits on numerous editorial and advisory boards.
Early registration is available through Feb. 4 (Friday). Early registration guarantees lunch while registration after Feb. 4 does not. Registration is $100 per day. Students and speakers can attend for $30 per day.
Parking is available at the UNT Parking Garage across the street from the University Union for $3 per day.
