Tall Mexican Petunia
Sherman, Texas -- On Saturday, May 7, 2022, (the day before Mother’s Day) the Grayson County Master Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The plant sale will be on the grounds at the Grayson County Courthouse located at 100 W. Houston Street, Sherman, Texas.

A plant purchased from a Master Gardener is like adopting a family member from a Master Gardener as all the plants offered for sale are grown and nurtured by Grayson County Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners will be present to answer your gardening questions and assist you in your plant selection.

Gregg's Mistflower
The Grayson County Master Gardeners have been hard at work growing and nurturing the plants that will be offered for sale, so it is time to make room in your garden for a Texas Native plant such as Gregg’s Mistflower, Fall Aster, Turk’s Cap, Blackeye Susan, or the Tall Mexican Petunia. Native plants require less maintenance compared to introduced species, tolerate, and resist local pests, diseases, and lack of water.

Nothing tastes better than a homegrown tomato. The Lori tomato, Super sweet tomato, Early Girl Tomato, and Large Cherry tomato plants will be available to add to your vegetable garden. The Purple Pepper plant will also be available.

Herbs are another great addition to a garden. Marjoram, Ginger, Catnip, Garlic Chives, Lemon Balm, and Peppermint will also be available.

Perennial plants such as the Yucca and Texas Star Hibiscus will be on sale.

Vinca ground cover will be available and is an excellent plant to add to your garden. It is one of the fastest-growing ground cover plants for covering large areas. The plant produces soft periwinkle blue flowers and blooms sporadically during the spring and summer months. The Houttuynia is another perennial ground cover that grows in moist boggy areas and will be available for sale.

Annual flowering plants offer a wonderful splash of color to a garden. Such beauties as the Bachelor Button, Gerber Daisy, Four O’clock, Moonflower, Pink and Green Zinnias, Black-eyed Susan, and Ornamental cabbage will be available.

Nothing would be better to buy for Mother’s Day than the Mother of Thousands plant. The Mother of Thousands is a succulent plant that is easy to grow and fun to propagate.

There will be numerous other plants available for sale. The Grayson County Master Gardener plant sale is an annual fundraiser event that benefits this nonprofit organization. The proceeds from the fundraiser help fund supplies for various community gardens that the Grayson County Master Gardeners oversee such as Groff Beds Pocket Garden, Fairview Veterans Garden, Eisenhower Birthplace, Habitat for Humanity, and Junior Master Gardeners, to name a few.

Come out and enjoy the Plant Sale. In the event of rain, the Plant Sale will be held the following Saturday, May 14, 2022.
