Neighbors take Dallas City Council election into their own hands

A group of neighborhood advocates and organizers, have come together to host a non-partisan, non-PAC affiliated candidate forum for Dallas City Council, District 2; in a first-of-its-kind “hybrid” format, which includes in-person or virtual attendance options.

Dallas, TX, March 25, 2021 – With only two days away from the first-of-its-kind (for Dallas) hybrid, in-person and virtual, neighbor-led community forum, anticipation and excitement are building amongst residents.

Up to this point voters have only had the option to view the candidates for Dallas City Council in District 2, through virtual formats hosted by partisan organizations or Neighborhood Associations, usually at times that are not convenient for seniors or those with young children at home. The lack of a “big picture perspective” and lack of accessibility, was so frustrating to Michelle Espinal-Embler, a long-time political activist in Dallas, that she formed a group of friends, from throughout District 2, to host an event that would offer a wholly new way for voters to navigate this very crowded candidate pool. And so was born a candidate forum that will focus completely on district wide issues, without any special interest agenda behind the format or questions asked, and is accessible to all. The public and media are invited to attend.

The two (2) hour forum will include: one (1) hour of questions from the audience (both in-person and virtual attendees will be able to participate); followed by a one (1) hour “ice cream social”, where an ice cream truck, secured by the co-host committee, for in-person attendees will be available, and virtual attendees will have un-interrupted time with each of the candidates, for an informal discussion.

The co-hosting committee, represents “the three corners” of the district.

Erin Adams, in the east (Farmer’s Market); Tammy Greenberg, in the South (The Cedars); and Lisa and Jimmy Tran, in the west (Oak Lawn). The organizer, Michelle Espinal-Embler, will moderate the forum.
