Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 report

Austin, Texas -- Texas reported 9,539 new cases of the novel coronavirus and 268 newly reported fatalities related to COVID-19 in Saturday's data release by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

As of Friday, July 31, the seven-day positivity rate in Texas was 12.05%. By comparison, on May 31 the seven-day positivity rate was 5.44%. On the last day of June, the seven-day positivity rate was 13.58% before spiking at 17.43% in mid-July.

Hospitalizations dropped by 367 coronavirus patients during the past 24 hours. Texas hospitals currently have 8,969 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients.

Active cases continue to decline, as well. On Friday, Texas had an estimated 141,186 active cases and that number dipped slightly to an estimated 141,044 active cases in Saturday's data release.

To date, the state has reported a total of 430,485 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with an estimated 282,604 recoveries and 6,837 fatalities related to the novel coronavirus.

In South Texas, Harris County reported a single-day record 2,114 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday.

Bexar County was advised of 420 new cases.

In Central Texas, Travis County turned in 280 new cases.

In North Texas, Dallas County had 707 new cases Saturday and Tarrant County was notified of 587 new cases.

Denton County reported 122 new cases, while neighboring Collin County was advised of 100 new cases. Hunt County had 27 new cases.

Lamar County reported 15 new cases and Cooke County had three newly confirmed cases.

According to the DSHS COVID-19 dashboard, Denton County has 2,940 active cases, Collin County has 1,394 active cases, Hunt County has 341 active cases, Lamar County has 150 active cases, Grayson County has 38 active cases, Fannin County has 14 active cases and Cooke County has 10 active cases.

DSHS advises that new data will not be posted on the department dashboard on Sunday, August 2 due to a scheduled upgrade to the system that processes electronic lab reports. Data for Sunday will be posted with Monday’s data update in the files on the Additional Data tab.
