Fannin County Commissioners Court: Fannin County continues to grow and add subdivisions

Fannin County, Texas – The regular meeting of Fannin County Commissioner’s Court began with the call to order and established a quorum with all commissioners present. Fannin County Judge Randy Moore was not in attendance.

Agenda item two was the invocation; David Woodson introduced Kenneth Ussery, Music Director at First Baptist Church, Bonham, who led court in the invocation.

Agenda item three was the Pledges of Allegiance. Commissioner Magness led court in the pledges.

Item number four was for introductions: there were none.

Agenda item number five was public forum which Sandy Hood thanked everyone for the support the Family County Crisis Center received over the holidays. The crisis center is also selling chances on a playhouse as a fundraiser.

Agenda item number six approved the County Treasurer’s financial report for December 2019, receipts were up and totaled $2,617,061.07

Agenda item seven approved the County Treasurer’s investment report for December 2019, all accounts earned $17,701.29. Total interest for calendar year 2019 was $279,636.16.

Item number eight discussed the Fannin County Multipurpose Complex. Dale McQueen gave a presentation on the 2019 usage of the complex and here is a link to the presentation. Multipurpose Complex Presentation. 

Then Ron R. Davis spoke to what he felt was the original purpose of the Multipurpose Complex. This would be the education of Fannin County youth. This would include housing the USDA and Agrilife programs. Also to have an exhibit hall for possibly trades day. He also mentioned the possibilities of walking trails, a scout complex and swimming pool. He asked commissioners to take a look at it and remember that the youth of Fannin County are our future.

Agenda item number nine approve the purchase of four county commissioner badges. These badges will be used for identification for the commissioners. The cost of the badges, $131.50 will be paid for out of each commissioner’s budget.

 Agenda item ten approved the final plat for North Star Estates, Phase 3 in Trenton, which contains 14 lots.

Item eleven on the agenda approved the use of funds from the Fannin County contingency fund, for no more than $1750, to remodel an office in the south annex to house Donna Lester and the office of bond supervision.

Agenda item twelve, relocation of adult probation offices, was passed on as commissioners would like to see a diagram of the proposed work. If approved, offices will be re-located to the south jail with renovations.

Agenda item thirteen set the value of the donated TAPS security and parking space at 1369 E. Sam Rayburn Drive at $7,800.00. This is a letter valuing the donation by the county for use of facilities, no money will change hands. 

Item fourteen on the agenda approved the Fannin County Auditor’s end of the year report for September 2019. Totals were received, but they were not audited figures. 

Agenda item fifteen approved payment of the bills. This week’s bills totaled $370,410.87 with inmate housing being a large portion of the bills. 

Item sixteen on the agenda was comments by the County Commissioners and County Judge.

·        Commissioner Whitlock:

o   Thanked everyone for coming.

·        Commissioner Self:

o   Said that we saw a good example of the county’s growth today, with the new subdivisions coming in.

o   Is ready for the courthouse to be finished so there is more room for county employees.

o   Has had his office phone hacked and is working on getting it fixed.

·        Commissioner Magness:

o   Acknowledged Richard Brand and Shonda Magness of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP and their improved collection of delinquent taxes.

·        Commissioner Lackey:

o   Stated that the bridges on CR 2610 were finished and the road would be closed on January 22nd for a few hours as some culverts will be replaced.

·        Commissioner Whitlock:

o   Also asked that Judge Moore be kept in your thoughts and prayers as he has injured his back.
