Sherman, Texas -- Preston Trail NSDAR has been proud to be involved in many activities this week concerning Constitution week.  They have had the honor of six (6) Daughters read books about the Constitution to K-4th grade while dressed in Revolutionary costumes to five elementary schools in the Sherman ISD.

The chapter received five official proclamations of the observance of Constitution Week from the cities of Sherman,  Denison,  Pottsboro,  the Grayson County Commissioners,  and from the Governor of Texas.  They have had the pleasure of decorating display cases with Constitution Week information at the Denison Public Library, Pottsboro Public Library, Neblett Elementary School, and  Dillingham Intermediate School.

The biggest honor of all was to present a program with the Public Reading of the Constitution and Bell Ringing ceremony at 4:00 p.m. on September 17 at the Grayson County Courthouse with more than 50 citizens participating.  This was all made possible by our Commemorative Events Chair and Constitution Week Chair, Catherine Giles and committee members Raye Nilius, Lisa Lettie, Gay Hilbert, Vicki McCormack, Natalie Bauman,  Michelle Alverson, Yvonne Carson, friend of the committee Linda Miller and the public.  We thank everyone for such a wonderful response to this great celebration!  Truly a happy birthday to our Constitution, a gift to each American to which there is no equal.

The speaker and topic for next month’s meeting will be Julie Avedikian teaching us “How to use the GRS (Genealogical Research System) & GRC (Genealogical Records Committee) for Genealogical Research.”  The Preston Trail NSDAR next meets Thursday, October 4, and thereafter through May on the first Thursday of the month at 5:00 p.m. for refreshments and social hour and at 6:00 p.m. for programs and chapter business meetings, with the exception of December.  For the meeting location please contact the chapter at prestontrailnsdar@gmail.com.
