McKinney Community Development Corporation awards $75,000 in promotional and community event grants

McKinney, Texas (February 1, 2018) – The McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC) announced grant awards totaling $75,000 for initiatives and activities in 2018 that enhance quality of life for McKinney residents, attract visitors to the community and showcase the city for the purpose of developing new or expanded business opportunities.

Following submission of the grant applications, MCDC board members reviewed the requests for funding and heard presentations from each of the applicants describing the impact of their proposed programs on the community. 

“MCDC welcomes the opportunity to provide promotional support to organizations that enhance quality of life in our city by creating events that showcase our city, and support tourism and business development,” said Kurt Kuehn, MCDC Board Chair. 

Listed below are the grants awarded by McKinney Community Development Corporation at its January board meeting: 

Texas and Collin County WWI Centennial Commemoration - Collin County History Museum – March–November 2018; 300 E. Virginia St.
Funding Amount: $8,532

·  Arts in Bloom - McKinney Main Street – April 13-15, 2018; Historic Downtown McKinney

Funding Amount: $15,000

·  Empty Bowls - St. Peter’s Episcopal Church - May 3, 2018; McKinney Performing Arts Center

Funding Amount: $7,500

Historic McKinney Triathlon, Kids Triathlon, Duathlon - Kiwanis Club of McKinney – April 22, 2018; McKinney High School, 1400 Wilson Creek Pkwy.

Funding Amount:  $2,750

·  ManeGait Country Fair – ManeGait Therapeutic Horsemanship – April 28, 2018; 3160 Custer Rd.

Funding Amount:  $5,000

2018 McKinney Garden and Home Tour - McKinney Garden Club – June 8-9, 2018; McKinney Historic District
Funding Amount:  $3,000

·  2018 Historic McKinney Farmers Market – April through November; Historic Downtown McKinney; Tour de Coop – April 28, 2018; Chestnut Square;  Killis Melton Ice Cream Crank-off – June 17, 2018;  Chestnut Square

Funding Amount:  $15,000

·  2018 Smiles Charity  Concert – Smiles Charity – May 27, 2018; Adriatica

Funding Amount:  $7,500

·   Star-Spangled Salsa Fest – Community Garden Kitchen – July 4, 2018; Chestnut Square

Funding Amount:  $5,268

·  Holiday Light Tour – McKinney Parks and Recreation Department – December 1-24, 2018; Gabe Nesbitt Community Park

Funding Amount: $5,450 

“Local dining and shopping in McKinney generates a one-half cent sales tax that is allocated to the McKinney Community Development Corporation. A portion of this sales tax is used to award project and promotional grants that enhance quality of life, support tourism and business development in McKinney,” said Kuehn.
