Dorchester, Texas -- Lillie Lou Monk, 77, of Dorchester, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Lillie was born on August 17, 1940 in Elmont, Texas, daughter of the late George and Minnie Walker Umphress. She was the 3rd born of 4 children. She grew up in Gunter, Texas and graduated school in Westminster, Texas.

Lillie was blessed with a large and loving family. She married Tex Autry Monk on November 17, 1956 in Elmont, Texas. They were happily married for 59 years, and had 5 children. During her lifetime, Lillie worked as a bookkeeper at Dorchester Grain, postmistress at Dorchester Post Office, worked part-time at the Van Alstyne Library, and owned Auto-Lec with her husband Tex for 20 years. What she enjoyed most was being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling, photography, painting, tea parties, entering contests, cooking, and spending time with grandkids. Lillie was a devout Christian and attended the Valley Church of Christ in Gunter, Texas.

Lillie Lou Monk is survived by her son, Alan Monk and wife Teresa of Dorchester; four daughters, Beverly Cole and husband Marlon of Gunter, Charlotte Boelens and husband Tom of Gunter, Dianne Gravley and husband Lynn of Gunter, and Connie Queen and husband Bruce of Howe. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, Jeremy Cole and wife Amber , Melissa Theil and husband Clint, Chance Cole and wife Tina, Destiny Morrison, Rikki Dethloff and husband Kendall, Jamie Boelens, Hunter Gravley, Alyssa Gravley, Garrett Gravley, Cassandra Belt and husband Calvin, Candace Haggard and husband Vince, Lillie Walston and husband Zach, Tex Autry Monk II, Jeb Queen, Andi Jakubik and husband Clint, Connor Queen and wife Susana, Cooper Queen and wife Olga, Jessi Queen, John Paxton Queen, Savannah Queen, and Hayden Queen; 20 great grandchildren Maddox Key, Braxton and Delilah Cole, Bremerton and Titus Thiel, Hannah Morrison, Gideon , Joseph and Ezekiel Belt, Leyla Haggard, MaeLeigh Walston, Benjamin Queen, Annabelle, Ainsley, Clinton, and Zachary Jakubik, Johnny and J Queen, Jimena and Arabelle Queen. She is survived by 1 brother, George Umphress, and 1 sister, Dorothy Bush. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tex Monk, parents George and Minnie Umphress, sisters Alma Umphress and Lois Hanning and grandson Zachary Queen.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 30, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31 at Valley Church of Christ in Gunter, Texas with Merrill Hazelton and Ty Fleming officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Elliott Cemetery in Van Alstyne, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory, 637 W.
