Van Alstyne, Texas -- Jolene Elliott, 90, of Van Alstyne, Texas passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at The Homestead of Sherman in Sherman, Texas. She was born on July 27, 1927 in Warden, Texas, the daughter of Albert J. Philips and Pearl McNew Philips. She married Joe Elliott on March 11, 1950 in Sherman, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2003.

Jolene worked for the Van Alstyne Post Office for 34 years before retiring. She was a lifetime Ladies Auxiliary member of the VFW Post 2772 in Sherman and worked passionately as the Cancer Aide and Research chairperson raising thousands of dollars for the program. She was a member of the Van Alstyne Christian Church.

Jolene loved listening to Country and Western Music and watching Texas Ranger baseball. She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Brown and husband Larry and Dianna Hooper; three grandchildren, Dinah Morgan, Gina Cook and De Marshall; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Elliott; two brothers, Jack and Tuffy Philips; and grandsons Judd Brown and Jody Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial will be at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory 637 W. Van Alstyne Parkway, Van Alstyne, Tx 75495.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff at the Homestead of Sherman especially employee Susan Mize, and also to her roommate Patsy Rohr. They would also like to say thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice and especially employee Donniel Stanley.
