Sulphur Bluff -- In the opening round of the 2017 Sulphur Bluff Basketball Tournament, the Ector Eagles scored 59 points in the second half to post a 26-point win over CHESS.
The first half was competitive, with Ector on top 13-11 after the first quarter and 26-20 at intermission.
The Eagles rained down 10 three-point shots in a high-scoring second half to distance CHESS, 85-59.
Ector had 14 three-pointers in the contest.
Five Eagles finished in double figures and Ector had two athletes with double-doubles.
Deviaire Patterson poured in a game-high 24 points and also pulled down 13 rebounds. Patterson dished out seven assists and grabbed eight steals.
Austin Earl also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Nathan Essary, Garen Norwood and Kenny Nelms all threw in 13 points apiece.
Joey Grijalva finished with four points, while Kyrin Beach and Noel Cannaday tossed in two points apiece.
With the victory, Ector moves to 9-4 on the year and the Eagles will play in Sulphur Bluff against Paris Home School and Sulphur Bluff on Friday, December 8.
