Anna High School, Van Alstyne High School and Melissa High School are hosting the Third Annual Highway 5 Classic basketball tournament December 7-9, 2017, and the Honey Grove Lady Warriors knocked off Class 5A Denton Braswell in the opening round.

Braswell had a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and Honey Grove trailed, 19-15, at the half, but the Lady Warriors went on to outscore Braswell 27-18 during the final two periods to give Honey Grove a 42-37 victory.

Honey Grove's Makiyah Johnson finished with 14 points to lead all scorers, Zakia Smith had eight points, Isabella Morrison scored seven, Diavian Shaw dropped in five points, with Bree Cason and Alexandra Morrison putting up four points apiece.

Aminah Hall led Braswell with nine points, Kaiya Turner tossed in eight points, Kamryn Gibson and Aziya Wilson each scored six, Sydney Tyler and Tiarah Starks each threw in three points and Brown had two points.
