The Bonham Warrior football team will have a new head coach and be competing in a different classification when the Warriors take the field in 2018.

As part of the 2018-2020 UIL reclassification and realignment, the Bonham Warriors will be among 106 schools competing in Class 3A Division I.

Class 3A DI schools will have enrollments between 335-504 and Bonham will be among the larger schools in this classification with 488 students.

Although the final numbers won't be released until February 1, 2018, the UIL did reveal the new parameters for classifications.

Other nearby schools that will also be competing in Class 3A DI include Commerce (453 students), Howe (341 students), Pottsboro (424 students), Ponder (416 students), Whitesboro (457 students), Van Alstyne (469 students), Dallas Madison (471 students), Pilot Point (424), Paradise (349) and Rains (478).

Bonham fans are hoping the reclassification will result in the same level of success the Warriors enjoyed the last time Bonham dropped to a lower classification, which was 35 years ago.

By early 2018, Bonham will know the district alignment for fall 2018 sports and the Warriors should also have a new head football coach.

Other interesting reclassifications include Princeton getting bumped up to Class 5A and Farmersville moving up to Class 4A.

Sherman moves up to Class 5A DI, while Princeton, Denison and Sulphur Springs are in Class 5A DII.

Melissa, Anna, Gainesville, Paris and North Lamar compete in Class 4A DI, with Aubrey, Nevada-Community and Farmersville in Class 4A D2.

Area teams competing in Class 3A Division II include Gunter, Pilot Point, Leonard, Bells, Callisburg, Blue Ridge and Whitewright.

Honey Grove, Trenton, Sam Rayburn and Wolfe City will compete in Class 2A.
