Bonham, Texas -- Funeral services for George “Sonny” Edgar Stevens, 97, of Bonham, Texas will held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Bonham, TX. Presiding will be Pastor Dyan Dietz; interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham, Texas. Mr. Stevens passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Woodmoore Assisted Living Facility in Bonham, Texas.

“Sonny” George Edgar Stevens was born on August 18, 1917 in Guymon, OK to James Vernon and Clara (Tate) Stevens. He married Ruth (Higdon) Stevens on March 22, 1942 in Battle Creek, MI; she preceded him in death on March 28, 2011.

George Stevens was a veteran of WWII; he served as a medic under the command of General George C. Patton, 7th Army. He was at the battle of Ardennes, better known as the Battle of the Bulge. George served with honor and distinction receiving 5 Bronze Stars for his service during WWII. He retired from the Bonham VA as supply clerk manager and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

George “ Sonny” is survived by Daughter-Judy Jeanes and husband Jerry of Denton, TX; Grandchild-Chad Roberts and wife Heather of Kansas City, MO; Great grandchildren-Grace Roberts and Abby Roberts of Kansas City, Mo; Sister-Jean Tate of Rockwall, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death are his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Terry, Jerry Jeanes, Chad Roberts, Adam Stevens, Gene Danner, and Roy Oliphant.

Family visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bonham.
