Bonham voters approve two 'Local Option' Propositions

The Bonham City Council met in special session Wednesday evening to canvass the vote from the Saturday, May 10 municipal election.

In addition to filling three (3) seats on the City Council and an assortment of Charter Amendments to update the City’s Home Rule Charter, voters approved Local Option Proposition #1 – The legal sale of beer and wine for off-premises consumption only – by 461 votes FOR to 220 votes AGAINST. Local Option Proposition #2 – The legal sale of mixed beverages in restaurants by food and beverage certificate holders only – was approved 470 votes FOR and 199 votes AGAINST.

The propositions become effective immediately but the election results require certification to the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) and the Office of the Texas Secretary of State
