Sunday, May 18, 3:30 p.m., at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, the Master Naturalists of Grayson County (Bluestem Chapter) are offering an informational seminar to the public on the topic of Groundwater: Preventing Waste of a Valuable Resource. Groundwater is water that is beneath the earth’s surface in the soil or stored in aquifers. It is the resource that supplies water to agriculture, municipalities and industries through springs or wells.
We cannot survive without groundwater, and we cannot survive if our groundwater gets too contaminated by landfills, nuclear or chemical waste, salt water or is overused.
Jerry Chapman, the Consulting General Manager for the Greater Texoma Utility Authority will share his expertise. Chapman recently retired from the Greater Texoma Utility Authority where he served as General Manager for the past 32 years. He also formerly served as the Executive Director of Texoma Council of Governments. Chapman will review the current groundwater situation in the Texoma area and upcoming requirements to establish desired future conditions by May, 2016--information of major importance for our planet.
This seminar offers Advanced Training credits for Master Naturalists as well as knowledge for concerned citizens. A short business meeting for Bluestem Chapter members will precede the seminar from 3:00 – 3:20. Information for attending fall classes will also be available at the seminar.
