McKINNEY, TEXAS – McKinney continues Stage 3 water restrictions since the city’s water supplier, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), has recommended all member cities remain under Stage 3 of the drought contingency plan.

Under Stage 3 of the drought plan, residents and businesses in McKinney can use irrigation systems once weekly to water landscapes on the scheduled trash pickup day. The watering schedules for commercial properties are determined by the residential trash zone where the property is located.

McKinney has initiated programs to conserve water year-round, enabling the city to maintain once weekly landscape watering options for residents in Stage 3. Conservation efforts are encouraged, and residents are urged only water landscapes when needed. Other restrictions under Stage 3 include the following measures:

Activities allowed under Stage 3 include:

New landscaping and new plantings (first year) of shrubs and trees have 30 days to establish after installation, during which time they can be watered with irrigation systems. Properly registered and operated ET controlled and drip systems may operate without day-of-week restrictions.

Violating the Stage 3 water restrictions could result in a fee of $50, $100, or $150. To report a water violation, call the water restriction hotline at 972-439-1059. For more information, visit www.mckinneytexas.org/waterrestrictions.
