McKinney -- Saturday, April 5 is opening day at Chestnut Square and we've got lots of fun activities lined up for the market.

Chipotle will be celebrating local farmers by handing out $5 Farmers Market vouchers to the first 300 customers from their booth at the north gate.  You snooze, you lose on this opportunity!  Spend your voucher with your favorite farmer!

NEW in 2014 - Viva La Vida McKinney Demos at the market.  All year long we'll be celebrating the best local gardening tips, cooking, healthy living demonstrations and more.  No, Ricky Martin will not be there to kick it off, but our new landscaping vendor Creative By Nature will be demonstrating "Thriller, Filler and Spiller" Container Gardening from their booth on Anthony Street.  Learn how to make your own "killer" container gardens to make your yard sizzle!  Demonstrations will be at 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

Bud Rager, the Singing Son of a Gun, will serenade everyone from the porch of the Two-Bit Taylor Inn.  Bud takes requests so keep him singing with your favorite songs!

For kids of all ages:  Chester of Chestnut Square book readings will take place in the schoolhouse at 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.  Be sure to like Chester on his Facebook page to keep up with his antics.  We'll also have blacksmithing demonstrations at the blacksmith shop all morning.  And, of course, Collin and McKinney the goats can't wait for all of their Farmers Market friends to come by and say hi!  (Bring a leaf for them to munch on!)

The Guava Tree Food Truck will be offering brunch items on Anthony Street from 9:00- 11:00 a.m.  Check out the great Cuban fare from this local (but loved everywhere!) food truck.

We will begin accepting SNAP at the Farmers Market on opening day. Customers can run their EBT cards for SNAP tokens in Dixie's Store. Tokens are worth $1 each and may be used to buy food items at the market. We are able to provide this service with the help of a USDA grant and proceeds from our 2013 Farm to Table Dinner sponsored by Rick's Chophouse, Sauce on the Square, The Grand Hotel and ingredient donations from our vendors. The 2014 Farm to Table Dinner is May 30....invitations will go out soon!
