Bonham -- No matter whether you are in Manhattan or Madrid, Taos or Tucumcari, everyone is quick to recognize the image of Willie Nelson and artist Anne Genung recently found out Fannin County is no different. Anne has found a way to combine her art, wit and humor by superimposing the screened-print face of country music icon Willie Nelson on everything from fine art icons such as the Mona Lisa to super hero icons Batman and Robin.
Creative Arts Center hosted receptions for Anne this past weekend and, although this was the artist's first exhibit in a rural environment, it quickly became obvious that Willie transcends urban and rural settings as easily as he transcends music genres. The result was a busy gallery, several sales and plenty of interesting conversation.
While Anne has tried featuring other iconic screened-print faces, she says none of those images seemed to appeal to a wide cross section of the populace as effectively as Willie Nelson. Anne manages to keep this line of artwork affordable by using found boards and recycled materials.
This latest exhibit at Creative Arts Center is made possible by Granny Lou's Bed & Breakfast owner Jenniffer Self, a longtime friend of Anne's.
