Dear Citizens of McKinney,
Over the past couple of weeks you have undoubtedly read about transition and changes in the City of McKinney. While change is often unsettling, I am writing to reassure the community that we are continuing to move forward in a positive fashion with a goal of providing excellent service in a manner that is expected of a city that is considered one of the best in the country to live in.
Over the past four years we have enjoyed many successes in the area of economic development with new companies coming to McKinney and existing corporate customers expanding. We have added quality of life projects such as the hike and bike trail, Bonnie Wenk Park and have begun development of additional facilities including PSA McKinney and our future Aquatic Center.
We have maintained a balanced budget, obtained a triple A bond rating and just recently received an ISO insurance rating of 1 thanks to the work of our staff and our fire department. Only 60 cities in the country out of 48,000 have this rating and we are only 1 of 18 in Texas that enjoy this rating which will in turn assist in reducing insurance rates for residents and businesses in McKinney.
These successes were the result of hard work from everyone in the city manager's office on down. We on the council set the policy and strategic goals, while our staff provides the implementation to achieve these strategic goals.
It is important to note that we have over 850 city employees that work each day to fulfill the operational requirements of our city. As we work on transition of our management team over the next several weeks, I assure you that our first priority is to maintain these operational requirements at a high level and continue to focus on the primary goals of the council in bringing quality economic development and quality of life projects to our city.
During this period, we have authorized our deputy city manager Jose Madrigal to operate with authority under our charter. Deputy city manager Rob Daake will continue in his role overseeing various departments related to development services and operational services related to existing and new development in the city. We trust that the decisions made while we are working on transition are and will be in the best interest of the City of McKinney. We will be deliberate in our efforts to finalize transition plans at the city manager level on a more long term basis in an effort to meet the expectation of all of our citizens.
On behalf of the city council, thank you for the opportunity to serve this great community.
Sincerely,
Brian Loughmiller
Mayor
