University Playhouse presents Kiss Me, Kate

COMMERCE, TX — The University Playhouse and the Texas A&M University-Commerce Department of Music present Kiss Me, Kate from November 5-10.

Kiss Me, Kate is a musical set in the late 1940s about two well-known actors who were once married but are now divorced and still arguing with each other, obviously still in love. The book, Kiss Me, Kate was written by Sam and Bella Spewak, and the music and lyrics for the musical were written by Cole Porter.

Music major, Victor Puccio, and Theatre Major, Stephanie Goudy, rehearse a scene from Kiss Me, Kate.

This production won a Tony Award for Best Musical, the first Tony awarded in that category, and Porter won a Tony Award for Best Composer and Lyricist. The score includes: “Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” “Wunderbar,” “So In Love,” “We Open in Venice,” “Tom, Dick or Harry,” “I’ve Come to Wive It Wealthily in Padua,” “I Hate Men,” “Too Darn Hot,” “Always True to You (In My Fashion),” and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare.”  

Joe Reynolds is the director and Randal Hooper is the musical director. 

The opening night performance on Tuesday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m. will be followed by a reception. Performances continue through Saturday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. with a matinee performance Sunday, November 10.
