McKINNEY, TEXAS (Sept. 25, 2013) – McKinney will spray another area of the city in order to control mosquitoes after a positive mosquito pool for West Nile Virus was discovered. Weather permitting, the spraying will take place Thursday, Sept. 26 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The spray area is generally in an area south of White Ave., west of S.H. 5, north of Anthony St., and east of U.S. 75. Streets blocked off for Oktoberfest set-up in Historic Downtown will not be sprayed.

Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information and a map of the spray area will be posted on the city’s website at www.McKinneyTexas.org/mosquitocontrol

Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside that evening. Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at (972) 547-7447.

McKinney residents are reminded to follow the Four Ds until the first freeze this fall. Residents should drain all standing water; dress in light-colored, long-sleeved clothing when outdoors; use a mosquito repellant that contains DEET; and stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

Residents may report standing water, illegal dumping and increased mosquito activity through McKinney’s West Nile Information line at 972-547-7473.
