National Senior Citizens Day is celebrated on August 21 to recognize the outstanding contributions senior citizens make in communities across the country. To recognize such individuals, the statewide not-for-profit aging services organization LeadingAge Texas presents the 2013 Outstanding Resident Contest. Dozens of individuals from around the state were nominated by their senior living community in recognition and honor of their generous contributions.

Retirement Housing Foundation’s Towne Creek Apartments nominates Nelma Hyde for the LeadingAge Texas 2013 Outstanding Resident Contest. One of the reasons Nelma Hyde is an Outstanding Resident at Towne Creek Apartments is her enthusiasm for volunteering and her community.  Nelma has been a resident at Towne Creek apartments since October 2009.  Since moving here, she has been very involved with not only the community of Towne Creek but involved in the city of McKinney community as well.

However, most recently is her dedication to Project Hands helping the Meals on Wheels in Collin County.  The first project was to help sort forms and assembly papers that need to go to Collin County residents that are applying for Meals On Wheels.  The second project was to help sign Christmas cards that Meals On Wheels will deliver to everyone this holiday season.  Her enthusiasm is contagious to all residents in the property.

This photo was taken on Towne Creek's McKinney Fire Department Appreciation luncheon day. Nelma went the extra step to deliver the extra meals to those at the station
who could not attend.
