McKINNEY, Texas (May 7, 2013) – McKinney is coordinating a Chunk Your Junk event on Saturday, May 18, to encourage residents to help make the city a cleaner community. You can “Chunk Your Junk” between 8 a.m. and noon on May 18 at the designated areas located behind McKinney’s Cotton Mill at Fowler and Burrus St.

Chunk Your Junk offers residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted junk from their homes, garages and yards. Get rid of broken furniture, old tires or odds and ends that do not fit into the residential trash container.

McKinney residents should bring proof of residency like a recent water bill or driver’s license. Recyclables and yard waste will need to be sorted by the resident. No household hazardous waste will be accepted at this event. No contractors or construction debris will be allowed.

This year for the first time ever, residents and businesses can also recycle electronics through Wistron GreenTech (Texas) Corp. Wistron will have a special truck at the Chunk Your Junk event and will be accepting phones (including cell phones), computers (desktop and laptop), VCRs, DVRs, TVs, monitors (including LCD), printers, scanners, fax machines, cables, power supply cords, keyboards and stereos. For a complete list of items that will be recycled at the event, visit www.mckinneytexas.org/gotjunk.

Wistron is delighted to be making McKinney the home of our U.S. electronics recycling operation. McKinney is an excellent community for our employees to live and work. City government from the administrations and City Council plus MEDC (McKinney Economic Development Corporation) have all been extremely helpful and supportive during the entire process, welcoming our green recycling business to their community,” said Joseph Hsu, General Manager, Wistron GreenTech (Texas) Corp.
