Bonham -- It was like watching a well-oiled machine as the hard-working hazardous waste team collected oil, paint, car tires and electronics at Texoma Council of Governments annual tri-county Hazardous Waste Collection event.

Teams unloaded household hazardous waste from more than 700 vehicles at locations in Cooke, Fannin and Grayson counties Saturday, April 20.

In Bonham, the teamwork began with CERTS volunteers directing traffic to appropriate stations where crews were waiting to unload tires, electronics and liquid hazardous waste.

Volunteers in Bonham report that vehicles were lining up by 8:20 a.m., even though the event wouldn't begin until 9:00 a.m., which shows how much residents value this annual collection of household hazardous waste.

If placed in a landfill, hazardous waste can mix with other chemicals and become toxic or explosive.

Location             # of Cars          # of Tires

Cooke                     198                   226

Grayson                   322                  295

Fannin                      187                  308

Totals                       707                  829
