SHERMAN, Texas — The Sherman Museum will present a holiday exhibit, “Toyland,” until January 5, 2013. The exhibit will feature toys from the Victorian period to the present today, including the first public display of the museum’s extensive collection of more than two dozen Madame Alexander dolls.
The handcrafted collectible dolls, many from the “First Ladies” series, were produced by the Alexander Doll Company and designed by company founder Madame Beatrice Alexander Behrman.
Also on display will be a selection of toy and collectible airplanes, trains and automobiles. The museum will be festively decorated for the holidays, adding to the warmth and allure of the exhibit.
The public is invited to bring a canned food item to receive free admission to the event. The food items will benefit Grand Central Station, a Sherman food kitchen for the poor. “I can think of no better way to end a successful year,” said museum director Dan Steelman. “Times are still tough for a lot of people. At this time of year, it is especially appropriate to consider how blessed we are and to seek ways to help others in need. Grand Central Station is an outstanding program, providing nourishing meals and hope to folks in desperate need of both.”
For persons not bringing food items to the museum, regular admission is $5 for adults (18-59 years), $3 for seniors (60 years and over), $2 for students (6-17 years) and children 5 and
under are free. During TOYLAND $1 of each admission fee will go directly to Grand Central Station.
The Sherman Museum is located at 301 South Walnut in Sherman, Texas.
