Now in its seventh year, the popular Gingerbread for Humanity decorating event is set from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5871 Virginia Parkway in McKinney. The public is encouraged to come enjoy all the fun and merriment. 

The heartwarming, yummy-smelling, family-friendly event combines charitable giving with the fun of decorating your own gingerbread house to take home and enjoy over the holidays. All proceeds benefit North Collin County Habitat for Humanity in McKinney, which enables low-income families to achieve the dream of home ownership with dignity. 

On Dec. 8, you, your friends, neighbors and loved ones are invited to decorate a pre-built gingerbread house with loads of icing and a smorgasbord of candy from an incredible candy buffet. Then, be sure to take a complimentary picture of your party and your gingerbread creation with Mrs. Claus, who will be greeting Gingerbread for Humanity participants. 

“We’re looking forward to another great turnout for this incredibly fun event that benefits North Collin County Habitat for Humanity,” said Pam Hatch, Gingerbread for Humanity organizer. “We love throwing this event every year. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the Christmas season of giving by doing something fun with the added benefit of helping your community at the same time.”  

If you did not have a chance to pre-register, just show up and join in the fun. Registration is $35 per gingerbread house (cash/checks accepted) as long as houses are available. 

If you don’t have time to decorate a gingerbread house but still would like to participate, Trinity Presbyterian Church will gladly accept donations, which will go directly to fund the construction of a new Habitat home in McKinney. To make a donation, please mail or drop off a check made out to Trinity Presbyterian Church with “Gingerbread Donation” in the memo line. 

“We appreciate all of the community support for this fun event that does so much good for others,” said Dawn Serr, a Gingerbread for Humanity organizer. “We look forward to seeing all of our returning participants and welcoming all the new faces.” 

Hatch noted that many participants have planned a big day of fun on Dec. 8.  

“After you take part in Gingerbread for Humanity at Trinity, be sure to head over to North Collin County Habitat’s Christmas celebration at their ReStore,” she said. “Their event will take place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will feature a petting zoo and live entertainment. We hear that Santa Claus will be there, and there will also be a raffle held for one of our gingerbread house kits.”
