Denison -- The final day of Denison's Dia de los Muertos wrapped up Sunday with the second day of Raku pottery demonstrations in Heritage Park, the Sweet Jubilee Cake and Sugar Arts Show at The Palazzo Event Center, and another day of open galleries featuring local artists such as kiln-fired glass artist Michael M. Waterman at My Friends House and metal artist Jerry Tate at Mary Karam Gallery.

For six years, the Raku Rumble has been an interesting part of the Denison Fall Fine Art Tour.  Potters from across North Texas and southern Oklahoma demonstrated an Americanized version of a 16th century Japanese pottery process that involves firing Raku pottery and then allowing the super-heated piece to rapidly cool to room temperature.

In addition to participating in the Rake Rumble, Grayson College clay artists are preparing for their second annual Empty Bowls fundraising event.

On Sunday, inside Palazzo Events Center, sugar artists were competing for prizes and listening to lectures by Sylvia Wilson, winner of Food Network's Star Wars Challenge, and Dawn Parrot, a piping sculpture artist. Several vendors, some from as far away as Houston, lined two walls at Palazzo.

Sylvia Wilson, winner of Food Network’s ‘Star Wars Challenge’, demonstrated how to create a Day of the Dead’ Sugar Skull cake while Dawn Parrot of the Houston Cake Club and various Food Network challenges demonstrated piping sculptures.
