Ector, Texas -- This year Great Days of Service spread to Ector, too. Twelve different organizations worked together to organize and complete work projects on Saturday, October 20, 2012. In all, 78 volunteers participated.

Community clean-up was done at six locations around town, including Ector School, Red Oak Apartments Park, Red Rock Creek Park and three separate lots. A lot of debris was cleared from the lots, plus one was mowed and weeded. A total of eight trailer loads of tree limbs was hauled off and three additional pick-up loads of limbs were hauled away. At least 12 bags of trash were collected.

Four different project improvements were also completed by volunteers. Carpets in two senior homes were cleaned. The Ector Post Office's cement bumper stops were painted. Volunteers also put up house numbers for the benefit of emergency vehicles. The City of Ector covered the cost of the house numbers.

Ector homes were numbered for emergency situations.

The Food Drive collected 260 items for Ector ISD fall and winter food drives. The Car Clinic serviced four vehicles, with all labor free-of-charge.

A special thank you goes out to the Ector Fire Department, which allowed GDS to use their facilities for registration and food collection. Additionally, businesses in Bonham donated and/or supported our efforts in various ways.

Organizers report that everyone came – and left – smiling. A great time seemed to be had by all participants. Organizers wish to thank everyone who came to work and help improve their community. For more information, go to www.gds-bonham.org.
