Fannin County's first-ever string quartet played at the Creative Arts center on Thursday evening October 18.

The audience at the Creative Arts Center in Bonham treated the first ever String Quartet in Fannin County to a standing ovation at the close of their performance.

There are plenty of country guitar groups around but an ensemble of violins, cello, string bass together with a flautist is truly a rarity in these parts.

The quartet is comprised of Mackenzie and Mackala Neson on cello and violin along with Camille Sterzer playing the flute and cello and Justin Sterzer on string bass. The founder and director is Mr. Dale Sterzer.

They played a variety of music which included patriotic, classical, Christian, sing-a-longs, and folk for about a hour to the pleasure of the audience.

One of the pieces included Mackenzie Nelson playing a delightful solo on her cello called the “Butterfly Waltz” accompanied by sister Mackala on the piano. Camille Sterzer and brother Justin also took a turn on the piano to play a four-hands duet called “Heart and Soul.”

At the conclusion of the evening the quartet responded to the standing ovation with an old time favorite, “O Susanna.”

Following their performance the quartet was asked by the Creative Arts Administrators to come back to play three more concerts in the 2013 season.

This talented group of young adults was formed in August of 2012 by Mr. Sterzer and following a few rehearsals started playing publicly for the confined elderly at the Clyde Cosper Veterans Home as well as at the Woodmore Assisted living Facility, both in Bonham. Their next performance will be for the folks at the Bonham Nursing Facility at 709 W. 5th St. Bonham, on Wednesday, October 24 at 1:30 p.m.
