Area photographers, beginner or professional, are invited to join in the 4th annual Fall Photo Safari at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. Hosted by the Friends of Hagerman Nature Photography Club, the event will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from 8 – 11:30 a.m. on the refuge grounds, as part of the celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week. Groups of 2-3 participants will be placed with a leader who is knowledgeable about the refuge and photography.
The event is open free of charge to photographers of all experience levels and with all camera types. Hageman offers an 11,000 acre plus habitat for wildlife, both resident and migratory. This week, for example a flock of 1000 American White Pelicans is resting at the Refuge before pushing farther south on their fall migration. Registration is now open, and advance sign-up is required; send name, contact information, type and model camera and level of experience by email to friendsofhagerman@gmail.com.
Participants are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch and stay for a post-event discussion that will be held at 11:30 am, in the A/V Classroom of the FOH Center at the Refuge.
The club holds a similar event twice per year, spring and fall. On Super Saturday, October 13, winning entries in the third annual Hagerman NWR Photo Contest will be announced and awards presented, at noon, at the refuge. In addition the club meets bimonthly at the Refuge, for technical programs and photo sharing. The next club meeting is set for Saturday, November 10, at 12:30 pm. For more information contact Laurie Sheppard, president, at the club email, fohphotoclub@gmail.com.
