Dia de los Muertos

Festival and Art Walk

A Cultural Celebration of Life & the Arts

The two-day event held on Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4 in Denison, Texas will celebrate the Christian holiday of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, through a wide variety of gallery exhibits, live art demonstrations, parades, live music, a bustling mercado, international foods and beverages - including a Beer and Margarita Garden, a feature film and events for all ages and interests!

Historically, when the Spanish Conquistadors arrived in Central America, they observed the native population celebrating this holiday which consisted of rituals honoring the souls of those who had gone on before. The Spaniards tried unsuccessfully to eradicate this holiday, and failing to do so, gradually merged the holiday with Catholic theology. The skull became a symbol of the holiday through it's metaphorical link to death and rebirth. It is truly a Holy Day!
