Denison -- Festival planners across North Texas schedule events in hopes of missing the last heat wave and catching the first invigorating cool breeze.  Mother Nature gave the planning committee for the 25th Annual Main Street Fall Festival in Denison a little more than they bargained for, as Old Man Winter seemed to pay a visit to the Red River Valley Saturday morning.

But, with a quarter century's momentum of inviting people downtown to participate in one of the region's annual autumn highlights, the brisk weather did little to deter the festival crowd. Vendors lined the middle of Main Street, classic cars filled the east end of the street and musicians rotated on and off the new stage at Heritage Park in the center of downtown Denison.

Vendors at Downtown Denison Farmers Market set up on the sidewalk outside the market confines to offer shoppers late-season bargains.

If you missed this festival, not to worry; it's never long until the next interesting event in downtown Denison. On October 13, Denison will commemorate native son Dwight Eisenhower's birthday with a full day of events, including military re-enactments and skydivers.

And if you're busy that weekend, it's only three weeks until downtown Denison comes alive to honor the precious memories of ancestors and loved ones on November 3 for Dia de los Muertos Festival and Art Walk.  Come enjoy a street mercado and tour art galleries in downtown Denison. This is another free festival, with free parking and free events scheduled all day.
