Bonham -- Foot traffic is picking up at Bonham Public Library and this time it isn't because a hot, new book is out...it's because the pumpkins are in!
More than 80 pumpkins, each one meticulously decorated by the library's amazing board of directors, are on display until October 6 at Bonham Public Library. At 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6 the library doors open for its biggest fundraiser, Pumpkin Patch Bazaar, and this my be your only opportunity to see pumpkins fly as families race out the door with this year's new holiday decoration.
Pumpkins are actually in the squash family and anyone moving slowly when the doors open at 9:00 a.m. can expect to get squashed because people are already perusing where their favorite pumpkins are placed. Wise shoppers don't want to waste any steps en route because this is a once-a-year opportunity to pick up one of these incredible artistic creations.
And this year, for the first time, pumpkins are letting their cousins the gourds participate in the Pumpkin Patch Bazaar. Pumpkins and gourds are all in the Cucurbitaceous family, so maybe this will be the start of an annual family reunion.
Grandma's Pantry is another big draw at Pumpkin Patch Bazaar as families stock up on relishes, jams and jellies for the holidays. For regulars at Pumpkin Patch Bazaar, this event is practically synonymous with Red Pepper Relish, made with love from the secret recipe of Frances and Bud Moody.
Pumpkin Patch Bazaar will also feature tables of baked goods of practically all kinds and this will be another very busy location when the library doors open. But if your taste runs a little more tart, load up your cart with Sue Smith's famous dill pickles.
Perhaps that wasn't the particular pickle you had in mind. Well, then, for the discriminating pickle shopper, how about Father Bill's Episcopal Pickles? And if you can say that three times quickly, you might even get a discount!
Of course there will also be a massive book sale with hardbacks going for $1 and paperbacks priced at 25 cents. Don't miss out on the "rare books" shelf or the books on CD for only $1.
Arts & Crafts items will be on sale and there will also be a White Elephant Sale.
Remember, the doors open at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6 and if you snooze, you lose! So get there early and help support one of the finest small-town libraries in Texas.
