Commerce man arrested on drug charges after fleeing from police on ATV

COMMERCE —  A Commerce man taken into custody after an unusual pursuit with an all terrain vehicle has been charged with Manufacture Delivery Possession of a Controlled Substance / Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone and Evading Arrest Using a Motor Vehicle.   

On Wednesday, September 12, 2012 shortly after 9:00 a.m., Commerce Police Officers responded to a tip of illegal narcotics activities in the area of Durham and Church Street next to the city park.  Sgt Cantera arrived and was identifying three persons at the location when a Commerce man identified as Darrell Eugene Brown drove away in an all terrain vehicle.  Sgt Cantera was able to intercept the vehicle on foot and managed to get Mr. Brown off of the ATV.  He was taken into custody without incident.  Officers found a cloth bag that Mr. Brown discarded during the chase.  The cloth bag had four individually packaged baggies of marijuana weighing approximately 22 grams.  

During the incident a Commerce woman identified as Tracy Brock was also arrested for disorderly conduct.  Mr. Brown and Ms. Brock were both taken to the Commerce Police Department where they were booked in.  Ms. Brock has pled guilty to disorderly conduct and was released. 

Mr. Brown was subsequently transported to the Hunt County Jail where he was booked in on charges of Manufacture Delivery Possession of a Controlled Substance / Marijuana in a Drug Free Zone and Evading Arrest Using a Motor Vehicle.  He has been released pending trial on a bond of $7500 for the manufacture charge and $7000 for the evading arrest charge.
