McKinney sprays for mosquitoes Sept. 14

McKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 13, 2012) – McKinney will spray an area of the city tomorrow starting at 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15. The spray area is generally east of College St., south of U.S. 380, west of Airport Dr., and north of Industrial Blvd. A map of all areas of the city that have been sprayed to treat for West Nile Virus is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol

Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at (972) 547-7447 by 2 p.m. the day of spraying. Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside.  

For more information, or to report standing water, illegal dumping and increased mosquito activity, call the West Nile information line at 972-547-7473. The chemical sprayed during mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus is Aqualeur 20/20, a synthetic compound similar to a chemical that occurs naturally in Chrysanthemums. 

The city will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. There have been nine reported human cases of West Nile Virus in McKinney and no deaths reported due to West Nile Virus.
