McKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 7, 2012) – McKinney will spray an area of the city next week starting Monday, Sept. 10 after confirming a new positive human case of West Nile Virus. This brings the total number of confirmed human cases in McKinney to eight. There have been no deaths reported in McKinney due to West Nile Virus.

From Sept. 10 – 12, crews will spray overnight each night starting at 10 p.m. in an area east of Custer Rd., south of Eldorado, west of U.S. 75, and north of the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

Residents who do not want to spray near their home may contact the City of McKinney Health Compliance at (972) 547-7447 by 2 p.m. the day of spraying. Signs will be posted at major intersections to notify residents of spraying activity and information. Residents in the spray area are advised to stay indoors during the spray period and should bring their pets inside.

A map of all areas of the city that have been sprayed to treat for West Nile Virus is posted on the city’s website at www.mckinneytexas.org/mosquitocontrol.

The city will continue to monitor mosquito activity and take measures to control mosquitoes. The chemical sprayed during mosquito control measures to combat the West Nile Virus is Aqualeur 20/20, a synthetic compound similar to a chemical that occurs naturally in Chrysanthemums.
