Garland, TX -- The Garland Symphony Orchestra opens its 2012-2013 “Viva España!” on October 19, 2012 at 8PM at the Granville Arts Center, Garland, TX.
The sensuous rhythms and exotic melodies of Spain will highlight the 24th concert season of the Garland Symphony Orchestra. Titled “Viva España”, the 2012-2013 Season will feature not just native Iberian composers such as Albéniz, Granados, and Turina, but also the many composers from other nations who have found the seductive sounds of Spain to be irresistible. The GSO’s audience can look forward to Spanish music by Russians (Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, Glinka’s Summer Night in Madrid), Frenchmen (Debussy’s Ibéria, Chabrier’s España, Ravel’s Bolero), Italians (Berio’s Ritirata notturno de Madrid), and other great composers from around the globe. Additionally, the season will explore music inspired by Spanish literature and from operas set in Spain: Don Juan by Richard Strauss, Wagner’s Parsifal Prelude, Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, the ballet music from Verdi’s Il Trovatore, and much more. A distinguished international roster of guest soloists will collaborate with the orchestra, including native Spaniard Daniel del Pino playing Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain, Mexican-born guitarist Cecilio Perera offering Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, and Curt Thompson, the GSO’s Concertmaster, performing Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy. Subscribers can look forward to a musical fiesta as fiery as a Flamenco dance and as rich as a bottle of Rioja! Olé!
The GSO opening concert in October will feature Chabrier’s España and Ravel’s Bolero, just to name a few! This performance will feature Albeniz’s Rhapsodia Espanola for Piano and Orchestra!
