Did someone close to you take their life?

Are you or someone you care about having difficulty coping with that death or loss?

Whether the loss due to suicide was in the near or distant past, “it is a special kind of grief and there are two different grief cycles,” states JoCarolyn, LCSW, LMFT, Social Worker for Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke & Fannin Counties and facilitator of “The Next Step,” a supportive seminar for survivors of suicide offered monthly beginning on Thursday, September 13  at 6:30 p.m. at Home Hospice’s office, 505 W. Center Street, in Sherman.

This group is an outgrowth of a six-week seminar offered in early summer to address the needs of the growing number of suicide survivors in our area.

Several individuals who attended that six-week seminar stated that the availability of someone to listen and the opportunity to hear about the journeys of other suicide survivors allowed them to take positive steps toward healing.

“It makes me feel like I am not alone,” stated one attendee.  “Not that any one of us likes going through this hell, but just to know that I’m not the only one dealing with it.”

There are particular needs that a griever needs to recognize and address in order to experience healing after a loss by suicide.  Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke and Fannin Counties has been companioning area residents on their special grief journeys for more than thirty years in many different areas and types of loss.  Regardless of whether someone experienced hospice care for a loved one or not, the expert and experienced staff members of Home Hospice are available to provide both information and support, allowing people to better understand helpful ways of healing from these losses.

This seminar is offered at no charge to anyone who would like to attend, and while reservations are not required, participants are asked to register by calling 903.868.9315 or emailing jolene.senek@homehospice.org, in order that any materials be prepared in sufficient quantities.  For additional information on hospice care or available grief support opportunities, visit www.homehospice.org.
