Last month my Uncle Randy was provided a scissor lift to cut down a tree very close to his wife’s office building. A cut limb hit and overturned the scissor lift, which caused Randy to fall 20 feet. He landed head first on concrete. He suffered a broken spine, severe head injury, and nerve damage. He was taken to Parkland Hospital via Care Flight. Parkland has cared for him for the past month and a half and doctors there have performed multiple surgeries to help repair his spine.

Along the way, Randy has suffered many setbacks. He has received great medical care, which has saved his life several times, but this medical care comes at a great cost. Our family is putting together a fund raiser for his family, and to answer the obvious question, yes, they do have health insurance. Still, the costs of his care have been overwhelming and the family’s out of pocket expenses have now reached tens of thousands of dollars, not to mention their significant loss of family income. He has recently been transferred to a physical rehabilitation center, thus there are many more financial burdens in the coming days. On a positive note, the rehabilitation facility is wonderful and they are teaching him how to walk again! But we all know the road for Randy and his family is long, and it will be traveled one step at a time.

We are asking you to search your heart and find a way to make a difference for this family. We have set up a bank account at two local banks for deposit of contributions. We are also having a soup dinner that will be held at the Windom cafeteria, on Sun., Sept. 23, 2012 at 12 p.m. I feel honored to participate in this endeavor, following the many examples of Christian attribute and charitable giving that my Uncle Randy and Aunt Earline have taught over the years; they would be the first to help had this accident happened to anyone else.

I am excited to see what God has in store for my family, I imagine he has a grand purpose for this incident, and he is surely blessing me, by giving me an opportunity to give back. My Aunt Earline has a prayer that she says during tough times and shared with me many times during Jeff's deployment.....show me the blessing.
