Bonham -- As a result of the decreasing danger of wildfires due to rain that fell over the weekend, Fannin County Commissioners Court voted 5-0 to lift the countywide burn ban.

The decision came Monday morning at a regular meeting of the county commissioners court.

Fannin County Precinct 3 Commissioner Dewayne Strickland reported that he had visited with a number of local fire departments in regard to possibly lifting the current fire ban and encountered no resistance.

Commissioner Strickland made a motion to lift the burn ban, with Fannin County Precinct 1 Commissioner Gary Whitlock seconding the motion.

After the unanimous decision to lift the burn ban, commissioners said the court will revisit the burn ban status on a weekly basis as conditions warrant.
